After months of meetings and discussions with the New Jersey Legislature and the Governor’s Office, we are thrilled to announce that the bill (A.5447/S.3521) to help rescue New Jersey's arts industry was PASSED! It was officially signed by the Governor on April 8th.
This bill allocates $15 million in federal CARES Act funds administered by the Economic Development Authority for grants to provide much needed financial relief for arts and culture live performance venues around the State. The EDA will distribute $7.5 million of the funds to independent for-profit venues, and $7.5 million to The New Jersey State Council on the Arts for grants to non-profit arts and culture entities.
"Our arts and cultural establishments are among the best in the nation, but they have faced difficult challenges over the past year," said Governor Murphy. "It's time we lifted up these organizations and venues to ensure they are still with us as we emerge from the pandemic and look to once again experience the joy they offer."
This important legislation would not have succeeded without our NJIVA Associates. Between writing the letter to the Governor, signing and boosting the public petition, contacting legislators, and sharing input at NJIVA meetings, this is a shared victory. We also thank NIVA for their invaluable assistance and support in this process.
Our next step is to make sure these relief funds get to those in need, so we can all get through this together.
Stay tuned to our blog, social media, and e-blasts for updates on how to apply to this funding as we learn more.
